Listen up
THE SUBLET is finally available for everyone to read on Amazon and listen to on Audible!
I am grateful for all of my early readers and I was especially thrilled by this review: “Daphne du Maurier meets Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Empire. A creepy short story about an apartment that’s too good to be true. Reminded me of the classic book Rebecca.”
If you also like The Sublet and are inclined to post some kind words, I would really appreciate it.
Book Rec: Secrets of Adulthood
Full disclosure, I edited Gretchen’s first book a zillion years ago and since then we have become dear friends. I am also a huge admirer of her work (book, podcasts, newsletters) and I often quote her words of wisdom (much to the chagrin of my family). Her new book Secrets of Adulthood is like a “best of” her brilliant insights and I pre-ordered one copy for myself and a bunch more to give out as graduation gifts!
Audiobook Rec: Say Everything
Gen-X icon Ione Skye has written a memoir and it is everything I hoped for and more. If you want to know about her relationships with Anthony Kiedis, Adam Horovitz, Keanu Reeves, and Madonna it’s all here. I listened to the memoir, but I am tempted to buy a physical copy too so I can see all the photos.
Series Recs: Lioness and The Studio
I’m a little late to the party on this Netflix spy thriller series starring Zoe Salada and Nicole Kidman. I just finished Season One which follows CIA operative Joe McNamara as she leads a covert unit, enlisting female operatives known as “Lionesses” in the war on terror. I hope season two is as compelling!
And I am ahead of the game on this new very funny satire The Studio. Seth Rogen plays a Hollywood studio head desperately trying to do a job he's afraid of failing at every single day. The comedy features some of my favorite stars including Catherine O'Hara, Bryan Cranston, and Kathryn Hahn, and also cameos from actors and directors playing themselves — including Zoë Kravitz, Ron Howard, and Martin Scorsese. Some might find this too inside baseball, but I am loving it.
Wildcard Rec: Repel Umbrella
I once vowed never to spend more than $12 on an umbrella because I have lost so many I could have probably supplied half of London. However, after yet another street vendor canopy blew inside out leaving me soggy before an important meeting, I decided to do some research and invest in one that was slightly more elevated. I found this Repel Umbrella on The Times Wirecutter and so far so good. It’s compact, yet strong and it comes in a lot of colors. I bought the clear one.
Speaking of London, I am heading there at the end of April to run the London Marathon and I welcome any suggestions for books to read or shows to watch on the plane!
Cheerio!
Sincerely,
Greer
